Cherie started voluntarily running the Apex Women Leadership Experience in 2018, after completing the Women’s Leadership Course at Harvard Business School. Apex Women is a program that is tailored to the Exploration and Mining sector. Its mission is to empower and encourage more women to join the Executive ranks & Boards in our sector. The Apex Women Leadership experiences provides a unique combination of coaching, mentorship, and leadership training as you hike, over a one- or two-day intensive period.
Cherie is a qualified & practising Executive Leadership Coach and is bound by the coaching ethics of the International Coaching Federation. This includes maintaining strict confidentiality of content shared during coaching sessions. Rest assured that no content of your session will be shared with anyone else.
Please note, Cherie is a geologist, not a therapist. Please pardon the geological pun, however as a coach, Cherie’s goal is to steer you in the right direction to enable you to dig for the gold within yourself. This is a different relationship to a mentor/advisor in which they have the gold, and let you have or see some of their gold. Executive Coaching is about unlocking potential, and Cherie helps you find your own gold via providing you with the pan!
There is a severe lack of females in board positions, especially in the Resources sector.
Cherie is determined to empower other motivated people to realize their potential and to provide them with insight and strategy on how they can achieve their corporate goals.
After the course, Cherie remains available to past participants for complimentary occasional and as required career coaching, advice and/or mentorship.
Due to Cherie's ongoing corporate obligations, the 2-day leadership course only runs a maximum of three times per year, during the warmer months of June-September.
Positions are therefore limited and are subject to availability.
The Apex Women's Leadership Experience is not advertised and relies on word of mouth within the industry.
There are three levels/groups that are run as separate Leadership Experience:
1. Motivated upper management women who are aiming to join the Executive ranks, including Board of Director positions within the next few years.
2. Women aspiring for upper management positions (such as Exploration Manager/Project Manager) within the next few years.
3. Custom and Tailored Experience based on unique Company/Individual's needs.
A reasonable level of fitness is required - you don't need to be an athlete; however, you do need to be able to walk 7 miles both days if you do the overnight experience. If this sounds impossible, there is also a one-day option available.
To ensure a rich learning experience for all participants, you must be physically capable of hiking 14 miles over a two-day period. If you can't do that today, then that's another goal you can aspire to achieve via training in the leadup to the Apex Women Experience!
The leadership camps are tailored to meet the specific requirements and goals of the participants.
The optimum number of participants ranges from 1-4 participants. Smaller groups ensure that we can focus on your needs and career.
We will provide you a detailed list of what to bring via e-mail. You will need to supply your own light weight hiking gear (backpack, sleeping bag, and pillow).
Apex Women will supply you with an ultra-light weight tent & mattress to borrow, food & cooking supplies (detailed information will be provided via e-mail).
A detailed pre planning check list will be sent after your place has been reserved.
Cherie volunteers her time spent running the two-day Apex Leadership Course as a way of giving back to the global resources sector. She does not receive any compensation for her time spent organizing and running the Apex Women's Leadership Experience.
For the 1-day experience: request that a donation is made to one of Cherie's affiliated organizations.
For the 2-day experience there is a per person cost of:
$500 for Exploration Companies
$1000 for Mining Companies
This cost is intended to cover the expenses relating to the provision of all meals for the two-day Leadership Program, the supplying of light weight camping gear such as high-cost tents and mattresses, stoves & gas, local transportation, safety & communication equipment, emergency responder on standby etc. Any/all profits generated are donated to one of the three organizations that Cherie is an active local Nevada member of, see: Make a difference (nvresources.com)
Upon being offered a position in the Apex Women's Leadership Course, you will receive an invoice that is payable within 30 days in order to secure your position.
It is typical for the Company that you work for to pay for and encourage your professional development. Please also bear in mind the cost of getting to Incline Village and for accommodation for the night before the Leadership Program. If you do not reside within a few hours' drive of Lake Tahoe, you will require accommodation the night before the program.
Please note, if you meet the requirements for this course however you work for a stingy company that is not willing to pay for your professional development, please let Cherie know your situation, and she will welcome you at no cost.
